Is your office really dull around Halloween? Does it seem that no one wants to do anything fun? Do your co-workers turn down every fun idea you have? Well, don’t despair. You can bring all of the fun of Halloween to work with you & have some fun with your co-workers.

First of all, if you don’t already have some sort of “party planning committee” at your office, create one! Try to get everyone involved to submit ideas for bringing fun back to the office during the holidays. You know that there are other Halloween enthusiasts like you that would love to participate & plan a great party at your office, but don’t want to be the first to admit it. (you know that ole office politics thing)

Start by getting your committee together of a few co-workers and meet a few times to gather ideas. Once you have created your game plan, you can share it with the rest of the office. Start by picking your date for the office party and set a time. (make sure that management approves of your idea as well, or it will be difficult to pull this off) You can create some eerie flyers to hang around the office or you can send out a great email to announce the party. Then, announce the great contests that your committee will be holding. Some great ideas are as follows:

Costume Contest – This contest always gets everyone involved! Pumpkin Carving Contest – Ask everyone to join in by carving a pumpkin. To make this contest fair, make sure they bring in their pumpkin in a brown paper bag so that no one else sees who carved what pumpkin. Then, when it comes to the judging time, each pumpkin is then taken out of the bags.

Cubicle/Office Decorating Contest – This contest will bring out the devil in everyone! This is where you will find all of the hidden talents that your co-workers possess or start a decorating war! You can make this contest open to any kind of Halloween decorations, or you can choose a theme that everyone must use for the contest.

Candy Corn Counting Contest – Fill a large jar with candy corn and have everyone guess at how many pieces are in the jar. (make sure you count the pieces before you fill the jar) Then, after the contest, you can leave the jar in the break room for everyone to eat.

To top off your party, you can ask everyone to contribute a food dish to the party to get a large assortment of treats & dips to share. (if you bring in a raving dish, make sure you also bring the recipe too!) During your luncheon would be a great time for everyone to vote on who wins all of the contests. Bringing a little Halloween with you to work is a great way to celebrate the witching hour and have a lot of fun with your co-workers.

10 Tips For Decorating Your Office For Halloween

  • April 28, 2010 7:21 pm

It is almost that time of the year, Halloween, when it is socially acceptable play dress up and eat copious amounts of sweets without being judged. Personally, one of my favorite days of the year. You probably already have your costume laid out, your Halloween plans made, your Halloween decorations in place at your home, but what about decorating your office? If you want to take Halloween to a new level this year and get in the festive spirit, consider taking some time to decorate your office for Halloween without pushing the envelope too far.

  1. Spider Webs: These are quite possibly the oldest Halloween prop around, but they can instantly turn your office into a spooky hit. They are also relatively easy to put up and take down. Around Halloween season you can find spider webs at virtually any store at a low cost. Hang them along the walls, across desks, over the door, or even on your office chair. Add fake plastic spiders or spider rings you can wear in the webs to spice it up a little more!
  2. Costumes: If Halloween falls on a work day, have some fun and wear your costume to the office, if permitted to do so. As long as it is work appropriate, have your employees and yourself dress up to get in the Halloween spirit and make work pass by a little faster. Costume contests for the best costume at work are also a great idea to encourage others to dress up.
  3. Pumpkins: If you have some extra time on your hands, carve a pumpkin for work! Extra points for pumpkins that include a company name or logo on it. If you do not want to spend a lot of money or time carving a pumpkin for work, there are also plenty of fake pumpkins that are already carved and will not break your budget. Place them on desks or counters and they will give everyone something to look at to brighten up their day.
  4. Pot of Candy: If you use the excuse that you are too old to trick or treat or want to get your candy fix early, consider investing in a pot of candy. Buy a plastic black bowl that you can find at any local store and fill it up with your favorite candies such as Twix, Snickers, and Butterfingers. Then set it out on your desk or anywhere easily accessible to allow others working in the office to help themselves.
  5. Black and Orange Streamers: Streamers are one of the easiest and cheapest Halloween decorations to put up. Just use some masking tape and intertwine the black and orange streamers and you are good to go. Hang them on your walls, across your desk, or anywhere in your office that is looking a little bare.
  6. Balloons: Everyone loves balloons, and during this time of the year many party supply stores offer packs of black and orange balloons. Get black and orange string to tie the balloons and set them free in places where they will be easy to take down later. Make sure not to set them free in places that you can not reach or you will have to wait for them to deflate on their own. Try not to go overboard on the balloons and stick to 10 or less.
  7. Inflatables: Pick up some pumpkin, witch, and ghost inflatables and set them around the office. You can even have them sitting in your office chair while you are out to lunch or sitting on your desk to give you some entertainment throughout the day. You can even put them on your company lawn to show you are really in the spirit of Halloween.
  8. Black Lights: If you are really in the Halloween mood and looking to go all out consider investing in some black lights. Put them in hallways or places where you do not need good light or reading light. They will really give your office a spooky vibe and a haunted house feel if you are looking to go above and beyond in your decorating plan.
  9. Banner: Hang up a Halloween Banner in the office some place where everyone can see it. Try using a wall or outside a door to really showcase your spirit. Many party stores have these with many different designs, so pick one that best suits your office. If you work with kids, try to pick one that is not too scary and more kid friendly.
  10. Decorate the door: Purchase a large vinyl or plastic Halloween table cloth and cover your door with it. You can also buy a large roll of black felt from a fabric store and cover the door that way. Get extra creative and cut out pumpkins or letters that spell out Happy Halloween and adhere them to the felt. You can also hang happy Halloween signs or plastic bats from the door knob.

Have some fun in your workplace this year while preparing for the spookiest holiday of the year.

Classroom Decoration For a Smashing Halloween Party

  • April 23, 2010 1:21 am

A fun school Halloween party begins with exciting classroom decorations. The best classroom decoration ideas produce big impact with little effort and expense.

Table Decorating Ideas

If you are serving food, use a bright orange paper table cloth to cover the tables. The solid paper table cloth gives students the option of drawing Halloween designs on it. Create an easy table centerpiece using an arrangement of Halloween balloons in black, orange and white. Tie the balloons together and add Halloween images, lollipops or plastic spiders to fill out the centerpiece.

Simple Streamer Ghosts

No school Halloween party is complete without classroom decorations that hang from the ceiling. For a simple classroom decorating idea, start with a white rectangle of construction paper and tape 2 ends together to make a tube with a fairly large diameter. Then, make long white streamers using crepe paper streamers or cut up white plastic trash bags. Attach the streamers to the bottom underside of the construction paper tube with tape. Complete the ghost by drawing a scary or funny face on one side of the tube. Hang five or more streamer ghosts around the classroom.

The Haunted Corner

If you have enough classroom space, create a haunted corner for younger students to play in during the Halloween party. The haunted corner can be as simple as a lightweight black curtain or piece of fabric hung from ceiling to floor with some spooky items behind it. Fake spider webs hanging down to brush the students’ heads when they step inside or a small table with a bowl full of something gooey are a few ideas for how to decorate the haunted corner.

Halloween Activity Table

Set up a table with fun activity choices for your students. Provide mini pumpkins that students can paint and then take home. A stack of colorful foam sheets can be used to create Halloween decorations that can be re-used year after year. Suggest that the students cut an oval or rectangular background for their decoration and then provide Halloween themed stencils of cats, pumpkins, bats, owls, moons and witches that they can trace, cut out and glue to the background to create a Halloween scene.

Edible Classroom Decorations

For a yummy classroom decoration idea, offer a plate of simple muffins that students can decorate with tubes of colored icing and then eat! Another edible activity is the spider pop. Have the students cover lollipop tops with squares of black tissue paper. Then, show them how to fasten the tissue paper with 4 black pipe cleaners wrapped around once so that 4 legs stick out evenly on either side. They can then glue wiggly eyes in the center of the pipe cleaners to make eyes.

These fun classroom decoration ideas for a Halloween party require little more than the classroom craft supplies on hand. Add a plate of cut veggies with a choice of dips, something to drink and a couple of fun games, and you’ve got the recipe for a smashing classroom Halloween party!

Halloween Games for the Perfect Halloween Party!

  • April 13, 2010 5:21 pm

With Halloween fast approaching it’s time to dust off those dirty and cobwebbed Halloween games for the kids. Depending on the style of party you are throwing you may be looking for Halloween crafts, icky sticky food games, some races and team games.  A good selection of Halloween games and activities will keep the group interested and the party running smoothly.

Just a little bit of organisation will go a long way, so be sure to have a few more games prepared than you think you will need. Games may finish quickly or if the children are not showing interest, a couple of back-ups can save you from any embarrassment. Prepare all of the music, props and prizes before the party and make sure that you understand all the rules.

When choosing Halloween games for children it is important to select games that are age appropriate for them. An older child may love the ghoul and fright of all the scariest Halloween themes and games whereas a careful selection needs to be made for preschoolers.

Toddlers will love games and themes that involve pumpkins, friendly ghosts, black cats and a smattering of not-so-spooky witches and scarecrows. Younger children prefer simple, short games, nothing that requires too much explaining or has numerous rules. Many games for toddlers / preschoolers are variations of favorite party games that have been given a Halloween twist. Games like Marshmallow Bobbing (a gentler variation of Apple Bobbing), a Witch Hunt (based on a Scavenger Hunt) and a Monster Freeze Dance are all fun games for the littlies.

Halloween games for parties can be as diverse as crafts, gooey food games, racing games, team games or even some old-fashioned Halloween games.

Halloween crafts are a great option as they encourage imagination and creativity and the children will love being able to take home their own special Halloween creation. The crafts can be as varied as making and decorating cookies, producing your own Halloween decorations, Halloween face-painting, or pumpkin decorating. Older kids will love a gooey, squishy games that can be played with food and they can even help you to think of ghouly names for spaghetti intestines, or cauliflower brains.More traditional Halloween games are centred around Fall themes and the harvest. Many involve apples and craft ideas with Fall leaves.

Whatever Halloween games you choose, be flexible, and willing to improvise if you need to. Allow the children to set the pace in regards to the length of the games. If they are all enjoying a game then let it continue, if not move on. And most importantly Happy Halloweening!

Ideas For Indoor Halloween Decorations

  • April 6, 2010 5:21 pm

Indoor Halloween decorations can really add some frightening fun to your party at home or office. Halloween is a holiday that many people of all ages enjoy. Because of that, however, you need to choose a theme that’s appropriate for the age group of the attendees. If you are entertaining little kids, you don’t want the decorations to be too scary or gory. Spooky creatures can appear harmless and funny too. If the party is for teens or adults then you can go with just about anything depending on your taste.

Personally, I really like ghosts and Jack O’Lanterns. Those are a must for me when decorating for my favorite holiday. Wall Halloween decorations can add a chilling flair to any room or office. You can find a large poster of a pumpkin, ghost, or skeleton with movable arms and legs. My little girl likes witches and she has a big poster of a witch stirring her cauldron in her bedroom.

Cobwebs are classic indoor Halloween decorations. My daughter also likes them and has some in her bedroom along with spiders that glow in the dark. These little Halloween ornaments come in the form of other creatures such black cats, bats, vampires, and more.

A while ago decorative lights were used mostly for Christmas. However, today you can also use them as part of your outdoor or indoor Halloween decorations. They usually come in orange or red, and you can also find lights in the shape of various Halloween objects like ghosts and Jack O’Lanterns.

While you can buy fancy indoor Halloween decorations in large department stores, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on them if you are on a tight budget. You can make some yourself. It just takes a little imagination and creativity. If you have kids, you can make it a fun Halloween craft project. Like one time my daughter and I made our own little ghost. First we made a ball out of paper, then we placed it inside an old white pillow case and tied a string around it. Next we shredded the bottom part to create the raggedy and spooky look, and drew a scary face. Finally, we cut a hole above the head and inserted a string for hanging.

Those are just a few ideas for some indoor Halloween decorations. You can come up with more of your own. Just browse the stores for some fun Halloween craft ideas. If you find something that appeals to you, see if you can create something similar yourself or with your children for less than half of the price. Whatever you do, make this Halloween a festive one.

Easy Halloween Crafts – Even a Caveman Can Make Halloween Crafts

  • April 6, 2010 1:21 am

One of the things that make Halloween so wonderful is that you can dress up, display Halloween crafts and scare all the folks you want in the spirit of fun. Decorating your home, car or office is the first step in setting the mood for Halloween and can be accomplished with just a little patience and some creativity.

There are some quick and easy ideas to consider when making your own Halloween decorations. The great part about Halloween crafts is that many of them are kid friendly and can be made with items you find around your home.

Tissue Ghosts

For example, one of my favorite crafts is tissue ghosts.  Just take a piece of Kleenex and gather it together so that you have a “bulb” at the top with the bottom splaying out – much like a ghost would look like!  Use a rubber band or a garbage bag twist tie to secure the bulb which is the head of your ghost.  Tie it tight!  Then

take a black magic marker and dot in eyes, a nose, and a mouth and you have a Kleenex ghost.  Make several of these to hang around your house, particularly in places where your family and friends would least expect to see them!

Egg Carton Bats

Another great idea for Halloween crafts involves a simple egg carton.  That’s right – you can turn an egg carton into a scary bat!  What you need to do is take three of the egg “cups” and separate them from the rest of the carton together so that they form a row.  The middle cup will be the bat face, the other two are the wings, so take a pair of scissors and cut out the front part of the cups to make wings.  If you have some “googly eyes” glue them on for a fun take, or you can simply draw a face on your bat. Then hang from a string or a rubber band and decorate the whole room with these fun and easy little bats.

Those are two ideas for Halloween crafts to get you started.  There are so many other great and easy ideas for Halloween crafts that you can try out. A good guide to keep you going is Easy Halloween Crafts.  Experiment around with these ideas to make some spooky or fun decorations that will make your home a Halloween haven with Halloween crafts that you have made yourself! Top 10 Ways To Have The Best Halloween Party

  • April 3, 2010 9:21 pm

Halloween parties are the perfect ending to a great trick-or treating night. For an incredible, well-put together Halloween party, it takes imagination and creativity. Here’s are ten great planning tips for a terrifying good time.

1. Choose a location: Be creative – think of a spooky basement, a bowling alley with lots of lights and scary music, or a haunted house.

2. Invitations: Be creative and write funny responses to the “Who, Where, and When” for the party. For example: Who: The most evil witch you know- (name). Where: The Cemetery located at (your address). When: 4 hours before the witching hour” (8pm).

3. Decorations: Use tombstone that glow in the dark or have flashlights surrounding the tombstones. Hang spider webs from trees, carved pumpkins with candles.

4. Music: Play creepy Halloween music before your guests arrive. Find DVD’s with wolves howling, doors slamming, steps creaking … anything to help set the mood for your party.

5. Adult Supervision: Adult supervision is necessary for safety reasons as well as preventing any property damage. Adults can help with the party and enforce rules, while the guests have fun.

6. Disposable cameras: Place disposable cameras around your party area for your guests to take pictures. It will be fun to look through all the photos after the party.

7. Get Help in Decorating: Plan to have friends come over early to help with the Halloween decorations. This will ease your workload and add some creative minds.

8. Supply Food and Candy: And plenty of it. What’s a party without goodies? Try dressing up your food to look like gross things such as eyeballs, body parts, etc. Make the punch look like blood.

9. Hand out Party Favors: Don’t let the kids leave empty handed. Hand out gifts to game contest winners and make up some party favor bags with Halloween candy.

10. Unexpected Scares: Make sure that there are always those ‘unexpected’ scary events at your party – whether before, during or after to spook your guests. With these planned scares, your party will be the talk of the town!
