Halloween party food – I do not think there is one parent come this Halloween Night that wont have an over excited fidgety kid stand before them while dressing them in their Halloween Costume. There is nothing to beat the feeling a parent feels on the inside seeing their children happy.

To watch them gleefully jump up and down for joy on the spot, at world record speed is enough to put a smile on any ones face let alone mom and dads. Nonetheless, it is difficult to apply face paint while the kid is in mid air, so be a little stern and tell them if they want to be the best monster (scary ghoul, screeching witch, wailing banshee, squealing bat, Dracula or black cat) in town trick or treating then they will have to stand still. Good luck, although kids will want to be the scariest monster they tend to forget your warning after about a minute, and back on the imaginary trampoline they go.

Tip: If the Halloween costume needs altering, do not do it while the child is wearing his or her scary Halloween costume if using a needle and cotton.

Are you dressing your child as a ghoul or witch to go trick or treating, or for a Halloween party you have planned for Halloween night, or because the child has an invite to a friends house. Either of the options will include Halloween party food having to be arranged. If you lay on a spread of eats the kids love and find attractive then nothing will go to waste. Make sure the room where they sit down to feast is decorated accordingly, and the table prepared with ghoul foods to match the event. You will not not get away with the average layout of cakes biscuits and jelly.

Depending on how many kids are invited to your Halloween party you might have to consider booking a venue hall to accommodate the numbers. If money is tight, and with already having splashed out on Halloween costumes, and yet still to buy the Halloween party food, then you might not have much left in your purse to decorate the room. Do not panic because it wont take much to do this, in fact you may not have to dip into your pocket either.

A couple of inexpensive Halloween party decoration ideas

Black sheet if you have one. if not dye a white one

Tin foil for paper cut outs

Black paper to make black cat shapes, moon, toads and frogs, its your choice.

Use string for hanging bits and pieces from the ceiling.

Use blue tack its safer than using drawing pins should one drop on the floor.

Glue for sticking witch and wizard cut outs and cauldrons to the black sheet

To set the whole Halloween theme alight…place a couple of decorated pumpkins around the room. When preparing and arranging the party, consider the childrens safety. Make sure candles and electric sockets your using meet with safety requirements. For instance: The candles are not near curtains or within childrens reach, and electrical wiring taped down to avoid trips or falls.

Pumpkins can be picked up for pennies late in the evening when the shop keeper believes the mad rush for pumpkins is over.

If a lighted pumpkin is planned for the table centrepiece then make sure the lid remains on top and the pumpkin placed in the middle of the table out of reach. Do not have food around the pumpkin so the kids hands do not come in contact with the pumpkin. When you decorate the pumpkin make the mouth of your creation saddened so the kids cannot put their finger in and touch the flame. To keep their Halloween costumes clean cut a black sheet into squares’ and glue edges neatly for napkins. On each napkin glue their name in a spooky font, or Halloween symbol.

Best Halloween Party Food Recipes

Leave and let dry. Decorate the cones and meringues with Smarties (hat) silver/gold balls (eyes) and liquorice strips for straggly hair…attach with melted chocolate. Use scoops of ice cream to stick the hats to the faces.

Halloween party food is fun and exciting; however certain eats can be a risk. Its important you serve safe and healthy foods. Avoid risky meals that contain something a child could choke on, or hazardous causing an allergic reaction (nuts) Speak to the parents whose child is attending the party and ask what yummy food they can, or cannot eat.

Every Halloween party has toffee apples, and if they do not then they should. Most Halloween treats consist of sugary ingredients, so watch out for the greedy child wanting seconds. Print out an awareness pamphlet for each child, telling them about the “ghoul-den” rules on how all Halloween freaks clean their teeth. The kids will love to follow in the footsteps of their monster idols, and will do the same. Explain how the monsters know being gummy prevents them eating food that is yummy.

5 medium-sized dessert apples (depending on how many guests)

450g soft caramel sweets

Wash and dry the apples, and stick a wooden skewer through the stem end. Slowly heat the caramel sweets in a double boiler or over a bain Marie until melted and smooth. Dip the apples in the toffee and twist until completely coated in the caramel/treacle. Place on greaseproof paper upright and sit in the fridge till set

Ice-cream Creepy Crawlies

Black licorice sticks

Put a scoop of chocolate ice cream in the middle of a bowl. Poke 8 pieces of black licorice along the side of the scoop to make the legs. Add two currants for the eyes.

Hard boiled eggs (halved)

Scoop egg yolks out. Mash the yolks in a bowl and add some cream cheese. Fill the empty egg middles with the yolk/cheese mix and add an olive for the eye ball. Use cocktail sticks to draw lines on the whites so they appear blood shot.

Your Halloween party food needs to include the messy

Make a lime jelly and when its set mash it up. Decorate with gummy wriggly worms, or jelly slithery snakes.

The Mud Recipe below will go down a treat with all the kids

Melt a 200g bar of milk chocolate over a pot of boiling water Allow to cool, and then add some finely grated orange zest, 1 tbsp fresh orange juice, and 2 x 500g tubs of natural fat-free/low fat fromage frais. Blend and pour into a bowl. Chill in the fridge before serving. Make it more exciting by asking the children to wash their hands, and then allow them to eat it with their fingers for more fun

Serve a beef burger, tuna burger or veggie burger in a bun with lashings of vampire blood (tomato sauce.) Check with the childrens parents about what foods they are allowed to eat. Some children are picky at meal times, but this is different to the child that may have special needs.

1 cup granulated/ or caster sugar

Juice from 4-6 lemons

4 cups sparkling water

Make the syrup a couple of hours in advance. Its a good idea to prepare Halloween party foods while the children are in bed so your baked goodies remain a surprise, hence no need to be tapping the hand attached to those inquisitive fingers sneakily dipping in your mixes.Mix 1 cup of water – and 1 cup sugar in small pot and bring to a boil, stirring often, until the sugar dissolves. Allow to cool. Squeeze the lemon juice in and stir into the syrup. Put into a large jug and add 4 cups of chilled sparkling water, mix and serve.

500ml pomegranate or cranberry juice

100 ml blackcurrant squash

500 ml sparkling water

Mix ingredients together in a jug, and serve

Halloween Food – Put a Spell Over Your Party Guests

  • April 14, 2010 9:21 pm

There thousands of Halloween recipes that you can create to leave your guests screaming with delight (or sometimes disgust– but in a good way!). Preparing creepy-looking Halloween food that also tastes utterly delicious can be a bit of a challenge… but with the right recipes, it can be a lot easier than you might think! The simple Halloween party food ideas below are the perfect thing to frighten your guests… but without scaring away their appetites!

Dreadful Halloween Desserts

Don’t forget the sweet stuff! After all, it is Halloween; a holiday well known for sugar-filled feasts and spooky costumes. Here are a few of my favorite scary dessert recipes for your guests to scream over after the rest of the Halloween food is gone.

1. Creepy Cupcakes. Cupcakes always are a popular favorite at parties. To stick with the theme, add some food coloring to your cupcake batter and decorate them with colored frosting and sprinkles to make them look like jack-o-lanterns, zombies, bugs, or eyeballs. You can even use a small cupcake pan to make mini zombies or mummies if you like!

2. Witches Finger Cookies. Serve up “severed fingers” by using shortbread cookie dough to make the finger shapes, then press an almond into the end for the “fingernail.” Then frost them with red icing on the ends to up the “ewww” factor.

3. Build a Dessert Graveyard. Bring out some old fashioned fall favorites such as pumpkin pie, but use crumbled Oreos for the topping. Then, stick some small fake tombstones (or cookies that look like tombstones, such as Milano cookies) on top to create the image of a grave yard!

Spooky Halloween Appetizers

While sweets and chips are great, most people will agree that small savory appetizers are probably the best choice for Halloween party food. So when planning your menu, don’t focus only on spooky cakes and cookies, but on savory (and spooky) snacks your guests will actually want to eat. And that won’t give them sugar shock. Need a few ideas? Here are three easy ways to make your Halloween food look just a little spookier this year.

1. Bloody Breadstick Bones. Love to serve breadsticks? Transform them for Halloween! This is so easy to do, you don’t even need a real recipe. Just open a package of refrigerated breadstick dough and separate the individual rectangles. Gently lengthen each breadstick by pulling the ends. Then to create the bone shape, cut a 1 inch slit in the middle of each end. Roll the sides of the slit into little knobs so they look like the ends of a bone. Sprinkle each bone with sea salt, garlic powder, and finely grated parmesan cheese, and bake according to the package directions. Serve your breadstick bones with tomato-based “bloody” dipping sauce for a spooky but tasty bonus.

2. Use unique serving dishes. Use small pumpkins carved as jack-o-lanterns to hold serving bowls for dips, such as guacamole or bean dip. Not only do they make great bowls for your Halloween food, but they also help make the table look more festive.

3. Creepy Crawly Spiders. Make creepy “spider snacks” by sticking small pretzel sticks into personal-sized cheese rounds (like Babybels) to create the body of a spider. Add raisins, peppercorns, or pine nuts for eyes. They’re too good to get grossed out by!

As you can see, Halloween party food should be anything but boring! All it takes is a little imagination to make for a great party. Plus, preparing these recipes is fun for children as well as adults, which means fun for the whole family… and it leaves you plenty of time to get into your costume! After all, you dress yourself up for this awesome holiday… so why not do the same with your Halloween food?

10 Steps For Planning A Halloween Party – Creative And Creepy …

  • April 12, 2010 7:21 am

The sky is darkening. You feel a chill and ghostly horrors in the air as the moon shines brightly on this cloudless night. It is the last night of October, October 31st. It is officially Halloween night and you have decided to have a hauntingly exciting Halloween party. How ghoulishly delightful! But where do you start in planning your Halloween holiday celebration. Here are 10 steps to help you in planning a great Halloween Party that will have all those ghosts, wicked witches and grim goblins screaming with delight.

Step 1: Halloween Party Kickoff: Think about who the party is for – for you or your children? An adult Halloween party will be quite different from a children’s Halloween party when it comes to planning the Halloween theme of the party, Halloween decorations, Halloween recipes and beverages. Adults and older children usually love to be frightened, but that is not the same for smaller children. So when planning your event keep the ages of your guests in mind. Once you have that figured out, now it is time to pick the date, time and place of your Halloween party. And don’t forget the guest list.

Step 2: Halloween invitations: This is where you can have fun and set the mood of your unforgettable night of horror chills and thrills by sending out unique and spookily inviting Halloween party invitations. You can purchase them or make some yourself with some construction paper and some glitter markers, or how about buying some inexpensive Halloween paper eye masks and writing the words on the back. Include all the important information such as date, time, place and a request for RSVP to your Halloween party.

Step 3: Halloween party food and recipes: now the party would not be a party without a lot of great Halloween munchies. Plan a menu and write out your shopping list. Try to do as much in advance as possible, and try to pick Halloween recipes that can be made ahead and stored or frozen. And again, think of the ages of your guests – there are a lot of fun Halloween foods for both kids and adults. Here might be the place to use up some of those Halloween pumpkin guts.

Step 4:Haunted Halloween Pumpkins: plan to buy your pumpkins early to get the best selection. By selecting a variety of shapes and sizes of pumpkins, you will be able to make a variety of interesting jack-o-lanterns ghosts. And don’t forget about those miniature pumpkins, they can make great party favors or Halloween decorations also. And the day before the party, carve your pumpkins and double check you have enough candles or use small flashlights to show off their ghostly grins.

Step 5: Halloween Costumes: there is always something exciting about putting on a Halloween costume and taking on another identity. So prepare yourself and your families Halloween party costumes in advance so that you don’t have to run around in a panic trying to put something together at the last minute. It is easy to find a lot of great Halloween costume ideas that will not cost a lot of money or time.

Step 6: Halloween Party Games or Activities: Halloween games and craft activities are especially popular for younger Halloween party guests, but this does not mean that adults would not enjoy the fun of Halloween games and showing off their ghostly talents. So think about what Halloween activities your guests would be interested in and gather all the materials you need in advance. Also be sure to have some extra Halloween activities incase a game that you are expecting to take 45 minutes only lasts for 20. And do not forget the Halloween prizes, these can be easily and inexpensively assembled by a quick trip to your local novelty or dollar store or ordered online to be delivered straight to your door.

Step 7: Halloween music and sounds: there is no time then the present to start thinking about what kind of Halloween music you want at your Halloween party celebration. Are you looking for some fun party songs for dancing music, or hauntingly spooky background ghost music for a dinner party, or a collection of sing-a-longs for the kids. Also, you might want to incorporate some Halloween special effects outside with spooky horror sounds as your guests walk up to the front door. There are a lot of special music tapes or CD’s available to purchase, or if your try making one on your own – it could be almost as much fun as the Halloween party itself.

Step 8:Halloween Party Favors: party favors add an extra treat of fun to any Halloween party and are a wonderful addition as a Halloween treat for each guest or something they can take home. They do not need to be elaborate Party Favors or costly and can range from a small plastic toy to a homemade individual bundle of snack mix wrapped in Halloween decoration style.

Step 9: Halloween Decorations: decorations for your front yard and house for Halloween can be a lot of fun and again does not need to be costly. You can get a lot of great eerie Halloween effects by experimenting with some horror lighting placed around your indoor and outdoor Halloween decorations. And adding in some Halloween music or ghost sounds can make some of your Halloween decorations come to life.

Step 10: Party Guests Arrival: today is the day – Halloween party Night, and your guests are about to arrive. Have a quick look around to see if all is in order and that your house is a safe setting. Keep a porch light on so everyone sees any steps or other obstacles, and make sure all your guests have a way back home after the Halloween festivities come to an end.

Final note: Remember that your Halloween party does not need to be elaborate, the main component of a great Halloween party are a few willing participants that want to have fun, a few simple Halloween decorations and props, toss in some spooky music and ghost sounds, and definitely the Halloween food – and you will have a smashingly and howling Halloween Party. So when the party starts, enjoy yourself! It will be a spookily great time.
