Spider Web Cake Ingredients

One pkg. Chocolate Cake Mix

One Can Prepared White Frosting OR (1/2 cup white chocolate chips & 1/2 tsp. shortening)

Butter knife or Wooden Pick

For Spiders:

Large Black Gumdrop & Black Licorice Whips

Peppermint patty & Red Licorice Whips

Chocolate Doughnut Hole & Black Pipe Cleaners

Making the Cake:

Bake the cake according to package directions. Let cool and remove both layers from pans.

Place first layer upside down on cake plate or cake board. Frost top of cake and place second layer right side up. Frost entire cake with chocolate frosting.

——————————————————————————–

Making the Spider Web:

Using white frosting, make 4 to 5 concentric circles from the center of the cake outward, starting small and ending about 1 inch from the cake’s edge. It should look like you’ve drawn a bull’s eye on the top of your cake.

Now draw a butter knife or wooden pick carefully from the cake center outward like the spokes of a wheel. This will pull the white frosting to resemble a real spider web. About 8 lines will make an authentic-looking web.

Spider Web White Frosting Alternative:

Place 1/2 cup white chips and 1/2 teaspoon shortening (do not use butter, margarine, oil or spread) in small, heavy zipper-close plastic bag. Microwave at High 45 seconds.

Squeeze gently until all the chips are melted. Microwave an additional 10 to 15 seconds if needed. Make a small cut in bottom corner of bag; squeeze mixture onto cake as directed above.

Halloween Party How To – Eerie But Easy Halloween Magic

  • April 7, 2010 5:21 pm

A safe Halloween can mean having a house party instead of going door to door for tricks and treats. Simple and inexpensive decorations and quick and easy sweet desserts can be the answer to a fun Halloween party.

A haunted house with scarily clever touches will stop partygoers dead in their tracks. Use candlelight to create dark shadows in the corners of your rooms. Put ghostly white tapers in a flea market candleabra to enhance the creepiness of cobwebs and flying bats that can be found at most local dollar stores. Flea markets, garage sales, secondhand stores, and dollar stores are great places to use your imagination to find props for your haunted house effects. You can also trick out your jack-o-lanterns with bewitching handmade halloween masks that you cut out from black felt or construction paper.

Give “dressed to kill” a whole new meaning with a pumpkin headed specter. Here’s how: Carve a grimacing jack-o-lantern, then carefully attach it to the top of an old dressmakers dummy, or something similar. Drape the “mannequin” with tattered looking two ply cheesecloth or torn up old white sheets, and position it in the foyer to greet your guests. If you are willing to spend a little more, you can purchase a smoke/mist machine that gives a really eerie atmosphere to your other decor. I have seen them retail for about $60 at some stores.

Try these easy ideas for a fright fest- conjure up a devilish looking dessert by frosting slice and bake sugar cookies with white icing. Then, starting at the cookie’s center, pipe circles of black icing. Create creepy cobwebs by alternately dragging a toothpick from the center to the edge and from the edge to the center of the cookie. Scooped out mini pumpkins can become spidery votives thanks to tealights and pipe cleaners. After scooping out the pumpkin, make spider legs out of black pipe cleaners and place a tea light in the hollow of the gourd.

Adults and children alike can have a spooktacular time at a Hallowen house party. Let your imagination soar!

There are many Halloween crafts you can make for very little cost. Some are quite popular and kids enjoy doing them over and over again. Here are some Halloween crafts I have seen done by children many times over the years:

Tissue Ghost — Take a lollipop – the large, round varieties work best.- Cover the lollipop with a tissue or two.- Tie the tissue onto the lollipop with white string or yarn.- Draw a face on the tissue with colored markers.

Halloween Placemat – - Take construction paper – Halloween colors like orange, white and black are often used.- Cut out black cats, pumpkins or Jack-O-Lanterns, spiders, and ghosts – you can use an Ellison machine if you have access to one.- Take another piece of construction paper.- Glue the cut-outs onto the whole piece of paper.- Cover the entire creation with clear contact paper.

Styrofoam Spiders – - Take a large styrofoam ball – paint it black. Leave it dry.- Once dry, glue two googly eyes on the painted sphere.- Stick black pipe cleaners into the styrofoam for the legs.

Halloween Mobile – - Take construction paper – Halloween colors like orange, white and black are often used.- Cut out black cats, pumpkins or Jack-O-Lanterns, spiders and ghosts – you can use an Ellison machine if you have access to one.- Laminate or cover all the cut-outs with clear contact paper.- Punch one hole in the laminated cut-outs.- Take a paper plate.- Decorate the plate with Halloween colors, Halloween stickers, markers or crayons. – Hole punch 5 or 6 holes around the edge.- Tie the laminated cut-outs to the paper plate with black thread or black yarn.- Hole punch 2 holes in the center of the paper plate.- Tie a piece of black string or yarn through the two holes for hanging.

There are complete books of Halloween crafts that you can purchase or check out from your public library. You can also find ideas on the internet. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have an activity for your kids to do.
